Pillow Talk
There are times when I go into these crazy modes when I want to re-do everything in my house. Throw my old sheets, change my curtains and basically start a major decor overhaul! I have heard this happens with many people especially around Spring time but with me it's pretty random. Suddenly everything that I own becomes boring, overdone and so last season! Thankfully, I chanced upon a way to not waste my time and money doing unnecessary redecoration by the simplest piece of home decor you can find - The Decorative Pillow !!! Yes, these little buggers can save you months of work and give a brand new look to your space.
What kind of pillows ? Well I like to stick to square and rectangular ones but hey you can try what you like and what works best for you. I also feel one shouldn't hesitate from using bold colors, you can choose a palette and then do a mix and match of patterns and shapes. Don't forget to mix in some neutrals to even out or give a more balanced look.
I am extremely fond of hand painted decorative items and cushions are no exceptions for me, anything which is hand made is close to my heart so I can say very confidently that the charm of an imperfectly drawn or painted pillow is much greater than a pillow that was made in a machine for a giant retailer and can be found in every second home you visit.
So I have these amazing elephant decorative cushions that were bestsellers at my etsy store - simple elephants on a plain white backdrop. These cushions are such a rage and almost everyone that bought the piece felt that hand painted pillows made their room pop and add a life to the vibe of the room. Take a look :)
Neat and simple, these cushions were an instant hit. Crisp cotton canvas and non toxic colors added to the grace and charm of these beauties.
These are more chic but if you want something more festive or occasion based go with a bolder motif like a floral insignia or a motif that has been painted using high contrast hues, like these
It is always a great idea to mix and match patterns and as much as it scares you, different patterns look great together, just make sure you pick patterns that compliment each other and not compete with each other. A combination of different patterns gives depth to your room and sort of binds the whole space together.
Another way is to choose designs that represent a natural element, like water or air or fire. If you want to maybe do you reading space, maybe adding a few lighter colors or pastel shade pillows would be a good idea. Again, go with what your instincts tell you because no advice can be better than what you already know in your heart. I would do a light abstract pattern like this in an area which needed to open up or where I wanted to create light
And finally please use different sizes and shapes of pillows to create a layered look. This gives each pillow some room to show itself off. Think of it like a family photo – tall in the back, short in the front.
So next time you want to throw everything out, rearrange your entire home, or think the only option is to move (yep, we've all been there), maybe start with trying out some new pillow combos, buy some new, re do some old and there you go, a brand new look !
